Malaysians in this century are too concerned on results and strict measures of success using revered but feared grading system. Teachers and parents always hope the children get good results. Teaching has been teacher-centred and not learner-centred. The role of a teacher now is to “tell” the students sets of information. This causes those children to only focus on results but miss out on their morality!
“ Even successful straight – A students can be failures of the education system in their own definitions.” Wrote by Hasrizal Jamil in a forum entitled Pedagogi Pendidikan Berasaskan Cinta hosted by Teach for The Needs Education is not to re-humanize humans from becoming robots that create academic and economic goals without souls, lack of empathy and ability to appreciate humanity in general. There is no true heart in children when being friend with other. Friends are to play with at break time, but competition at class time. The teacher-student relationship is dichotomous, instead of a single unit together in the search for education. Since school, children are taught to compete and enter the top classroom.
As a result, they only fight for A’s but they are emotionally empty. They compete unhealthily through school and into their future: carrying the notion that winning is to always put oneself ahead of another. This may cause them cannot stand and control themselves when they “loss”.
Therefore, teachers should patient and organized. Take an interest in every child. The better a teacher get to know their students, the more influence will have their attitude towards the subject, and their lives in general. Remember the adage: “ Teachers touch eternity, they never know where their influence may end”

I totally agree with this saying “ Teachers touch eternity, they never know where their influence may end " because I believe that an individual gain their knowledge and basic education from the school, basically their teachers and a teachers responsibility is not only to educate their student academically but morally and ethically too.Moulding and nurtuoring children is not the only role played by parents but even teachers.
ReplyDeleteThis phenomenon do occur frequently in every school life nowadays, students are trained to think like adults in terms of competition between friends, this is indeed unhealthy for society and should be stopped. I agree fully with your article!
ReplyDeleteI strongly agree that students does not necessarily achieve a good moral attitude from education alone. As you mentioned, it takes a teacher's touch to not only educate them core subjects but moral values as well.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree with your article. Children nowadays are forced too hard by their parents to get full A's result but what for? There's not point to be a intelligent student but know nothing about moral values. Parents always hope their children can be successful in future, this might cause their children to become stressed and lose their interest in study.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your suggestion that students who fight for A's are emotionally empty and competes in unhealthy way through school. Therefore, they can't stand and control themselves when they loss to someone.

ReplyDeleteI agree with your article. I support your suggestion. Teachers should focus on the students' moral attitudes too. Not only studies, but moral education also is important for every students' life. That is the meaning of real success.
