Ministry of Communication and Multimedia
Despite
living in the 21st centuries, some individuals in our country,
Malaysia are still not exposed to the developed usage of Communication and
Multimedia. This situation is mostly situated for People with Disabilities
(PwD). Myself as the Minister of Communication and Multimedia and department in collaboration with Telekom Malaysia
Berhad (TM) and supported by Ministry of Women, Family and Community
Development launched a new application for emergency services, named “SaveME
999”. This application is specifically set for individuals with hearing and
speech-impairment.
Said
earlier by YB Dato’ Sri Ahmad Shabery Cheek, “It is
the Government's aspiration to provide the emergency services regardless of the
geographical boundary. Thus, the SaveME 999 application can be fully utilised
throughout Malaysia.” Group of society, particularly individuals with hearing
and speech-impairment, may face emergency situations which requires immediate aid but their condition may limit
it. Hence, SaveME 999 will serve an alternative mechanism for them to call for
assistance through a non-voice mechanism.
SaveME 999 can be downloaded for free of
charge from the MERS 999 portal at www.999.gov.my. This application is activated by pressing SaveME
icon on smart phones. The sender’s details including name, telephone number,
type of emergency and location will be send to MERS 999. This process needs the
utility of Geographical Positioning System (GPS) and also data plan in smart
phones.
The 5 emergency agencies, Polis DiRaja
Malaysia (PDRM), Jabatan Bomba dan Penyelamat Malaysia (JBPM), Kementerian
Kesihatan Malaysia (KKM), Jabatan Pertahanan Awam Malaysia (JPAM) and Agensi
Penguatkuasaan Maritim Malaysia (APMM). will receive all the crucial
information simultaneously to enable them to respond immediately. This will make
People with Disabilities all over Malaysia to feel much safer and protected. It
will make Malaysia to have better communication among the needs.

I AGREE.ALL THE 5 EMERGENCY AGENCIES SHOULD RECEIVE ALL THE CRUCIAL INFORMATION SIMULTANEOUSLY TO ENABLE THEM TO RESPOND IMMEDIATELY.BUT THERE ARE A LOT OF FAKE COMPLAINTS IS RECEIVED SO HOW TO PREVENT IT?
ReplyDeletekrisna priya: Thank you for your comment. yes I do agree that these 5 emergency department do get fake reports, with that a certain fine can be imposed. SaveMe99 is mainly for People With Disabilities and they have to register their contact number, location and other information into the MERS 999. And if a fake report is registered, but the victim is not at their location, the contact number that is registered can be detected and the particular person will be searched and be fined.
