During the
olden days, roads were built during the British colonial era before 1957. At that time, the
British government built the roads in order to enable them to transport goods
and commodities easier. But when Malaysia was independent and many years
passes by, numbers of Malaysian are facing many difficulty, accident and death.Road accident is one of the major causes of death and injuries in
Malaysia. In the year 2001, the total number of road accidents was 265,175 with
fatalities of 5230, seriously injured 6942, and slightly injured 30,684. It is
a shocking fact that road accidents kill more people in other developing
countries too, every year, than war and disease. In Asia alone, 400,000 people
are killed on the roads annually and more than four million injured. According
to WHO, every year, nearly one million people are killed, three millions are
severely disabled for life and thirty millions are injured in road traffic
accidents. The social and economic, economical cost of these accidents is also
so high that it would he sufficient to buy the world total production of
cereals each year. Furthermore, the number of accidents is in constant increase
throughout the world. the causes of road accident are faulty vehicles, uneven
roads, careless/reckless driving, speeding, drunk driving, inadequate sleep,
alcohol and other drug effect and many more. According to a case-control study
of 571 drivers involved in road crashes, it was found that driving when sleepy,
driving after five hours’ or less of sleep, and driving between 2 am and 5 am
were associated with a substantial increase in the risk of a car crash
resulting in serious injury or death. Such cases are responsible for up to a
fifth of all such road crashes. The authors conclude that a reduction in these
behaviors may reduce the incidence of injuries or death up to 19%.
Therefore,
due to the recent increment of bus accident, I as ministry of rural and regional
has a solution to these problem. One way is by improving road conditions. We
must give more attention to road
surface, type of bitumen and lighting at night to reduce
this problem. The authorities also should put signs at strategic locations
to warn drivers about the dangers of the road. This way can
decrease their vehicle speed. Besides road conditions, we must also enforce the
law. More effective and strick law should be enacted such as ban on express bus
travel at night, give a warrant to people who violate road
traffic rules and so on. The law enforcement must be firm and do not
discriminate. Other than that ,education must be given to beginners. An
education can be implemented through exposure in moral subject at school, by
improving a training
in driving school and give more information about safety road to all
people. Last and finally, we must have campaign. we can implement the campaign to people to
instill awareness among them. The campaign
like ''Traffic Safety and Road'' is one of the campaigns to raise moral
and civic values.
Road accident in Malaysia is increasing every year
and is dangerous to all people. In this situation all people must realize and
give more attention to decrease the rate of road accident. At the same time,
all people must cooperation with authorities like police to settle this
problem. As we know many factors that cause this problem and the main factor is
from human. After that the causes are road condition from poor, climate and
vehicle factors. The rate of road accidents could be reduced by the various
actions including from education, comfortable road condition, campaign and
enforced the law. If all people give support and cooperation, this problem
could be settled easily and our country also can decrease the number of deaths
that result from road accident. For my conclusion we must work together to reduce
the number of road accident.
I agree with your idea. We really must improve our road quality. I also like the idea of ''Traffic Safety and Road''

I agree that road accidents in Malaysia is increasing, Malaysian government should organise more road awareness campaigns to make people realise how important is road safety. They can also increase the traffic offense payments and also increase the car insurence for those involved in accidents resulting in death. - Villasini a/p Rajamany
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with all of your suggestions to reduce road accidents. In my opinion, road accidents also occurs because of the driver itself. Irresponsible drivers often cause problems to others. Thus, heavy penalties should be imposed on those who violate the rules of the road.
