There are about 400,000 unemployed in the country and this is partly due to the people being too choosy in the kind of jobs they want. Therefore, 2.1 million foreigners have taken advantage by working in our country. They are happy and earning a good income. If the 400,000 Malaysians were not choosy in their choice of jobs, they could replace the job which is currently held by the foreign workers. According to the International Labour Organisation (ILO), the number of unemployment in this country is considered high. There are some 1.4 million civil servants and 6 millions working in the private sector. The numbers of employees working in the both sectors are expected to increase due to the various development programmes that need skilled workers in various fields. The skilled labour available at present is at 28% while the country needed at least 50% of them in the year 2020.

Statistic of unemployment rate in Malaysia has increased.

Malaysia is seeing fewer skilled foreign workers and expatriates, while low-skilled migrant workers flood our shores.

The rate of foreign workers in Malaysia.

The changes can be done in order to decrease unemployment by demanding side policies. Fiscal policy can decrease unemployment by helping to increase aggregate demand and rate of economy growth. This involves cutting taxes and increasing government spending. Lower taxes increase disposable income and therefore helps to increase consumption , leading higher aggregate demand. If firms produce more, there will be an increase demand for workers and and therefore lower demand for unemployment. Also, with higher aggregate demand and strong economic growth, fewer firms will go bankrupt meaning fewer jobs losses.

Provide education and skills to the long term unemployed new skills which enable them to find jobs developing industries. This can retain unemployed steel workers to have basic I.T. skills which helps them to find work is service sector. However, despite providing education and training schemes, the unemployed may be unable or unwilling to learn new skills. At best it will take several years to reduce unemployment.

Stricter unemployed in taking a more pro-active role in making unemployed accept a job or risk losing benefits. After a certain time period, the government could guarantee some kind of public sector job. This could significantly reduce unemployment.

If the rate unemployment decreases, the rate of social crime decreases.this is due to citizens of Malaysia has got a better job and they won’t easily get involve in crimes. Hence, the economy growth will increase gradually. It will leave an example mark for the upcoming generations in Malaysia.

  1. I agree. Malaysians shouldn't be too choosy with their jobs as all jobs has pros and cons but its up to the person to be successful in it.

  2. I agree too.The jobs vacancy or employment in our country should be filled with we Malaysians. Job opportunities should not be taken for granted because an individual should be able to earn their own income and take up responsibilities.

  3. We foresee problem with both parties here, employer and job seeker. Both need to work hand in hand in order to resolve this matter.
    - Job seeker should not be very choosy with job offered and must be able to start as beginner and gain experience and knowledge pursuing their career.
    - Employer should give them chance to show their capacity especially those without any working experience before evaluating their performance.

  4. True. Malaysians should not be too picky and try to grab opportunities when they have. This will help them to explore and learn more rather than being unemployed.
