MINISTRY OF RURAL AND REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The term 'rural' is defined an area that has a population of 5000 people or less. There are many problems facing rural areas in today's world. These problems include depopulation, where more people are actually moving out leaving the area with even a fewer people. Then the migration of young people, which can leave the area in question with an ageing population can in fact harm the area because the area can deteriorate without the input of new generations. In many rural areas, there is a very high dependence of agriculture. Most of the inhabitants depend on farms as their main source of income and this can also be attributed to the low level of basic and manufacturing industry.A very important problem facing rural communities is the lack of invesment being put into these areas.Without invesment, many farms and businesses can die and this would lead the town and community in an even worst state.Significant problem receiving long distance or wireless calls on their landlines telephone.

To overcome this type problems I would suggest that the outlaw corporate agriculture, which would encourage not only small farms but food diversity as well.Use zoning-rules to restrict the big-box stores, thereby saving small town merchants.Make college excellent and affordable,so that graduates aren't forced by the weight of student debt to seek corporate employment. In some rural areas, where road access and electricity supply are now available, communication towers are being planned and constructed. With the completion of these towers, residents will soon have access to mobile and broadband connectivity. The Government can simultaneously start planning to introduce social amenities such as school, hospitals.Technologies such as solar hybrid power generation or micro hydro-electricity will be introduced. This approach has helped to provide electricity to many villages in rural areas. And the big wins are 783.1 km of rural roads were built and upgraded across the country.Over 12,000 villages across Malaysia with enhanced road connectivity.Over 36,273 additional houses are now supplied with clean or treated water.27,266 additional houses connected with 24-hour electricity supply.16,962 houses for rural poor built or restored.

  1. Priya. I totally agree with all the points stated in your article. As u mentioned that solar hybrid power generation or micro hydro-electricity should be introduced to rural areas. But isn't it expensive to for the villages to afford the payment of such electricity suppliers??? is there a way to avoid this problem?

  2. Dilip:i agree with your contents.Even i noticed that most of the people leaving the rural area just to earn more in the cities.Besides that, there is more vacancy in the cities compared to the rural area which change the people's mind to migrate to cities.Overall, your article satisfied me and the government should keep doing something to the rural area to keep the same amount of population as before.
