Snatch theft is a act of crime of forcefully stealing from a person while employing rob-and-run tactics. It involves two thieves to work together and ride a vehicle which is usually a motorbike to make escape easier. A person steers the vehicle while another does the act of theft itself. However, some snatch thieves work alone or do not use a motorcycle to rob.
PETALING JAYA: A lorry driver lodged a police report last month claiming that one of the snatch thieves he caught red handed was none other than a police officer.
In the report lodged at the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters on July 3, B Saravanan, 27, said that he was going out to lunch outside his office at Taman Mayang Jaya on that day, when he saw two men on a motorcycle trying to snatch a gold necklace from a foreign national.
“It was about 12 pm. I was going for lunch when I saw the thieves on a Yamaha LC bike attempting to snatch a necklace from an Indonesian lady.

As a ministry of defence,I do feel that snatch theft has becoming a serious issue in Malaysia and ways need to be taken to solve this issue. There are preventions that need to be taken my Malaysian are they should walk against the traffic. So snatch theft do not have a chance to take your bag because you can see the people that riding a motorcycle besides you.

Besides individual especially girls must avoid themself from going out at night especially when you are alone. This is because there will have a higher chance to snatch at night. At night, less people walk and go out. So,noyone will be there to help during snatch.

The society including the role of school, public, family members is important in reducing this theft. In schools teachers can give a speech to the students on how they can prevent themself from being a target of the snatch theft and how to protect themself if they be a victims. For  example, the school can invite someone that can give a speech about the consequences of snatch theft. Other than that, teachers also can advice the students to be careful at anytime and anywhere. If the students get the information early, they can be aware of the snatch theft and also can share the information with their friends and family. Teenagers also must be aware about the snatch theft because there is a case that the snatch theft grab the handphone when the victim is using it for messaging or calling. This is because the victims do not alert to their surrounding. These is very important for the students to know about the snatch theft and be careful all the time.

So Keep your eyes and ears open for what is around you as preventation is better than cure.

  1. Women are the major victim of snatch thieves compared to man. Thus, women should be more careful when they are out from their house. They should not go out alone, walk in dark streets and should be aware of their surrounding in order to be free from snatch thieves.

  5. Good article. Yes. Prevention is better than cure but I think that the police should take a serious action against the criminals too. We should find ways to lower down the crime rate because everyone wants to have a safe country to love in. But still, your steps of prevention is something that everyone should know and apply in their daily life. Well done! :)
